During a real estate transaction, it’s important to be sure that the home you’re purchasing has safety features that are up to code. That’s the specialty of Alina and the team at Metro Retrofitting.Looking to buy? Search homes here.Selling your home? See how much it’s worth.

Why is a Home Safety Inspection So Important?

Today I’m joined by Alina from Metro Retrofitting to discuss what services she and her team offer clients. When you purchase a new home, you want to know that the house you're about to buy is up to code. This is partly for your own safety, and partly to avoid walking into a situation where you have to pay hundreds or even thousands of dollars after the sale to get your new home up to code.

What's Checked During This Inspection?

A safety inspection by a company like Metro Retrofitting will include testing the functional safety features of a home, such as smoke and carbon monoxide detectors. What's included in each inspection depends on your specific location. Each city has different requirements for what features need to be inspected, not just your smoke and carbon monoxide detectors. Some additional features that may need to be looked at include:

  • Gas shutoffs
  • Sliding glass doors
  • Low-flow toilets
  • Low-flow aerators on the sink

The Metro Retrofitting Advantage

Where many inspection companies will highlight problems, leaving you or the seller to find separate contractors for the actual fix, Metro Retrofitting is a one-stop shop for inspection and repairs. They'll come out to your home and perform an inspection to make sure you're up to code.Metro Retrofitting will also note any features that aren’t up to code, fix them, and then return after the necessary work has been done to ensure that you’re properly protected per the standards of the city, county, and the state. Much easier than doing all the leg work yourself!
